A Human is made to make the earth a better place and to help another human. But people have a tendency to get work done from other people, and being selfish with whom they are working with on a daily basis. Your workplace is a place where you synchronize, learn & collaborate, not where you play your tactics and execute main ideas conveyed in the books such as “Corporate Chanakya” by Radhakrishnan Pillai. The book majorly focus on office domination, politics & manipulating your colleagues, but very little on effective and contructive communication.

Selfishness and egotism is the biggest mistake that most of the working professionals keep repeating and that’s where they lose their standards. People management is a skill which comes when you understand the person you are working with and being sincerely supportive of your colleagues/ employees / employer. An avid working professional is the one who can yield a good amount of work & quality with a positive attitude or somehow by provoking the other in such a direction, that they can’t lose their foot on the path to success.

Some professionals take inspiration from generic TV shows and movies which doesn’t even exist in real life and these shows have a motive to entertain and uplift you from the real world. Watching them and wasting your valuable time is what the creators want, so we should stop wasting it and start doing something which is really productive such as meditate or reading a book / per week. In a nutshell, do something which has a substantial byproduct.

When we focus on other’s fault, we only draw those negative forces onto ourselves. Fault finding, constant criticism and magnifying those mistakes of others are poor & ineffective ways of changing the organization or the world. A sunny temperament and healthy sense of humor can do wonders. Try a smile on a kind word – you will find that wrongdoing are easy to set right and wrongdoers will be set back on the right track.

Are you listening what others are saying? If you wish to enrich your relationships, learn to be a good listener. Let the other person talk and prove his point to his satisfaction. When an employer / employee start drawing conclusions for his / her own good and being super heedless for his /her own needs, then he / she is rehearsing the chapter of being penny-wise and pound-foolish.

Another approach that working class follows on is being a two face individual. It is very important for a professional to know that the other individuals are perceptive enough to understand the way he / she is operating, so we should always be careful what words we are saying and how we are saying them or it may hit us back in the near possible future.

A person tends to develop the feature of selfishness due to multiple reasons:

  1. Absence of effective communication
  2. Major dissatisfaction in personal life
  3. Carrying the “I don’t care” attitude
  4. Lack of sympathy and empathy
  5. Thinking and processing things on a personal level

The last point may look wrong but it is very important for a professional to start looking things on a macro level. He / she should contribute more and connect more with his partners in order to succeed.

In the end, I just want to say that “Great achievement is usually born of great sacrifice, and is never the result of selfishness.”
